Creating a brand is much more than designing a logo. Through understanding your culture, personality, customers and competitors, I can help create and manage your brand with strategic and creative design. I’m especially interested in how brands are adapting to the digital age and the way we think about, create and plan brands.

Bespoke illustrations can add lots of personality to your website/marketing materials while communicating complex messages. I can help you bring a unique style to your projects.

If you’re creating a new digital product or service, I can help to plan your project, wireframe and develop ideas to suit your requirements and design a pixel-perfect solution. For web/app development and coding, I can recommend a number of excellent sub-contractors I have worked with and used before. Throughout this process, I can manage every milestone and fit within your budget.

One-off projects, company literature, marketing materials, promotional and any visual communications are all welcome at PHELANd. I love the tactile qualities of print work, especially when it’s a creative piece! If it’s a creative and eye-catching business card, high-end company brochure or a single flyer, I will work with you to choose the best product for your budget.

With every new project/new client, I follow the same procedure and methods.
This way I can estimate my time and quote more effectively. This process helps for me to structure my design process:

1. Initial Meeting

This can be over the phone or in person. I always like to have a good conversation to understand you,  your needs, the project’s scope, the budget and deadline. Once we have discussed this and the quote has been agreed upon, I can start the next stage of the process.

2. Understanding the Brief

This is the stage where I will research the brief. Trying to find out everything about your competitors, your product/service and all the variables relating to the brief.

3. Exploration of the Brief

I like to think of this stage as ‘discovering’ the project. I can brainstorm and as can often happen, start out with a wide range of thoughts and concepts. These will then be condensed into presenting the next stage.

4. Initial Ideas & Feedback

Hopefully this can be done in person, but over the phone is fine too. I will present my initial designs to you, explaining my thought process and rational. I find this stage can help both you and I cement where to go for the next stage.

5. Idea Development & Finalisation

This is where I go away and really polish and refine the chosen route. Im always happy to discuss my progress with you during this stage if necessary.

6. Final Product/Presentation

Here I will create all the needed output for the project. Whether its .pngs or .svgs & .jpegs for a developer or a high-res PDF for print, I have all the experience and attention to detail to ensure the final outcome is to the highest standard.

Nice words from nice people…

From initial contact to completion I found Joe friendly, thoughtful and creative. My initial idea was to freshen our salon front. With Joe’s input, this soon turned to a full rebrand with logo, shop front, website, business cards and literature getting a total make over.

From the off Joe had an understanding of our needs and a fabulous creative narrative that led to ideas I hadn’t considered possible. The final result was fabulous, we have a great new logo, clean and clear signage and fresh modern literature. All bringing the salon up to date and feeling modern.

Incredibly fair rates, friendly advice, incisive work & great attention to detail. I would recommend Joe’s creative talents for any job.
